March

9x12 inches
acrylic and ink on acrylic paper

The idea for this was inspired by an illustration in a nature book of various water plants – it was the way it showed the plants’ parts under and above the water that spawned this idea. I wanted to do something with lily pads anyway; I think they’re neat because you never know what’s really lurking beneath them.

After I finished this, I was initially worried that the colors were too dull (I usually use brighter colors), but that’s really how March looks to me, just sort of blah. I’m really not sure how the creature’s expression wound up looking so sad, since it was just supposed to look neutral; it just seemed to turn out like that. :(

The number of times I give up and the number of failures were the same.

proves that the number of times that I didn't give up and the number of times I succeed were the same.

Thank you! I didn't really intend for the dragon to look so sad... or maybe it just looks that way to me.

i think he looks lonely, and i like it, it conveys that he really wants to get above the water, puts some feeling into the piece.

Thank you! When I had just finished this, I was afraid the colors looked too dull.
